From Field Sites to Ice Baths—Meet Pat McCashin

Sober archaeologist • Anthropological Human Adaptation Expert • Author of The Momhak Method

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step—sometimes into cold water.” – Pat

Pat McCashin is an archaeologist with over 20 years of field experience and the creator of The Momhak Method—a system that blends ancient practices and modern science to help people rewire their nervous systems, reclaim purpose, and thrive in times of change.

After years of struggling with alcohol, Pat rebuilt his life using the same tools humans have relied on for millennia: breathwork, cold, movement, and mind training. Those practices didn’t just save him—they revealed a universal framework for human adaptation.

Now, as an Anthropological Human Adaptation Expert, Pat bridges archaeology, recovery, and resilience training. He shows how the skills that carried us through every past transition are the same ones that will carry us through the future—whether it’s personal transformation or navigating the age of AI.

When he’s not writing or teaching, Pat is often out doing archaeological fieldwork throughout British Columbia, or you’ll find him in the ocean, hiking the forests, or practicing the very tools that have become his way of life.
